River Bunkley is an emerging artist, entrepreneur, and organizer based in New York City. He is currently pivoting from his background in technology and diving into artistic creation as both a personal and professional pursuit, working to deepen his craft in the mediums of photography, sculpture, and product design through participating in residences and learning experiences hosted by arts institutions across the globe.

Through founding The Black Renaissance Group, River has collaborated with 20+ Black-owned businesses and organizations on a series of digital marketing, design, and product development projects. River was a John Lewis Fellow with Humanity in Action, and a 2019 Obama Foundation Community Leadership Corps Member.

River’s early work focused on leveraging technology to empower equity within historically underrepresented communities across the United States. He spent five years within the tech industry working at Meta and the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, contributing to efforts that increased access to digital marketing resources for Black and LatinX business leaders, and helping launch new software and tech solutions to teachers and students over the COVID-19 pandemic.

River holds an B.A. from Emory University in Political Sciecne and African American Studies. In the future, he hopes to create multisensory art that interrogates the role of joy, health, and community as tools for healing and justice.
